FirstNSB is debt-free! On Thursday, July 21, the sale of our old sanctuary building at 214 Sams Avenue was finalized. We sold the property to the City of New Smyrna Beach for $600,000. The following day, we paid off the remaining balance of $53,734.64 to our lender. The original amount of our loan was $2 million. We are now officially debt-free!
While we used a portion of the proceeds from the sale of our property to pay off the remaining balance on our loan, the greatest part of our loan has been paid from the faithful, generous, and sacrificial giving of the people of FirstNSB over many years. Let us together give thanks to our God for all he has provided!
While we should celebrate being debt-free as a church, our greatest freedom from debt comes through Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul writes:
“And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:13-14, ESV)
We are forgiven! We are free!
This past Sunday I had the privilege to baptize some of our high school students. They acknowledge their sinfulness, believe that Jesus died for their sin and was raised from the dead, and have repented of their sin and received Jesus. Through Jesus, they are FREE!
True freedom and eternal life is offered to anyone who will repent of their sin and receive Jesus Christ (John 1:12; 3:16; Romans 10:9).
We are free in Jesus! Praise be to our God!
